The air-cooled Desmodue family represents one of the longest-running chapters in Ducati's history, and the Supersport series was its most accessible sporting expression for nearly two decades. From the 750 and 900 with the Pierre Terblanche redesign in 1998, through to the final 620, 800 and 1000 DS introduced in 2003, these L-twin motorcycles with desmodromic valve distribution built a loyal following thanks to a rare balance of engaging riding, reasonable maintenance and an engine character that rewards those who love riding on the road. It is precisely the air-cooled twin, with its linear power delivery and that low-to-mid range pull that brings corners to life, which defines the identity of these motorcycles. The products in this category are slip-on silencers sold in pairs, designed to replace the two original mufflers mounted laterally — one on each side — while keeping the rest of the exhaust system, including the headers, fully intact. Each pair of silencers comes with the necessary fitting kit and connects directly to the original mounting points, with no modifications required to the frame or headers. Installation is within reach for those with mechanical experience, but we always recommend having the work carried out by a qualified mechanic to ensure correct tightening and optimal alignment of the silencers.
The practical benefits of the replacement concern two main aspects. The first is weight: the original mufflers on these Supersport models are quite heavy units, and switching to a pair of aftermarket silencers delivers a noticeable weight saving, particularly felt during direction changes and in overall handling. The second is sound: the Desmodue twin gains a fuller, more defined tone, with a voice that better conveys the engine's character compared to the stock mufflers, without turning the bike into something unsuitable for everyday road use. In each product listing, you can select the version with a catalytic converter from the drop-down menu. The catalysed version allows road-legal use, an important consideration for those who ride their Supersport as a daily motorcycle and not only for dedicated outings. Also from the drop-down menu, you can choose the silencer sleeve length between 285 mm and 400 mm, to match the aesthetics and overall dimensions to your preference.
Since only the silencers are being replaced, the upstream section of the system — headers and any original catalytic converters — remains in place. Remapping of the ECU is not normally required: the engine management system continues to operate on its factory parameters without generating faults or error codes.
Each silencer is supplied with a standard dB killer fitted. The dB killer is not officially removable: its removal invalidates the product's type approval. For those who want an even lower noise level, the No-Noise version is available — a welded internal filter that further reduces decibel output without significantly affecting performance. This option is also selectable directly in the product listing.
