The 999 cc LC8 twin has always had a clear character: plenty of mid-range torque, a raw and direct sound, and a versatility that convinced thousands of riders to choose the 990 platform in its various versions — from the Adventure built for long-distance riding, to the SM and SMR for sharp cornering, through to the SMT that blends both souls. Precisely because of this variety of use, working on the exhaust means making a choice that goes beyond aesthetics: it means acting on the sonic character and overall weight of the bike, in a targeted and consistent way with the intended use. Among the many accessories designed for this engine, our exhausts for KTM are developed with the aim of enhancing what the original design already does well.
What we offer for the 990 family is a sports silencer in a double configuration, with laterally positioned mufflers — right and left — in perfect accordance with the original geometry. This is a silencer designed to replace the original end can, retaining the headers and the rest of the stock exhaust system. Fitment is via the original mounting points, with no structural modifications required, and a complete fitting kit is included. We still recommend entrusting installation to a qualified mechanic to ensure a correct and safe fit.
The most immediate benefit is weight reduction: the stock 990 end cans are far from lightweight, and replacing them with our silencer delivers a noticeable weight saving, with positive effects on overall agility — particularly appreciated on the SM and SMR versions. In terms of sound, the LC8 twin gains a fuller and more defined tone: the voice of the Austrian twin becomes deeper without turning into something artificial or out of character. Throttle response can feel more linear and immediate, especially during more dynamic riding, where improved flow management can contribute to a greater sense of responsiveness. No promises on figures, but a genuine contribution to riding enjoyment.
We manufacture every exhaust in our workshop through handcrafted manufacturing in Lombardy, in the province of Bergamo. Each piece is built to order and undergoes internal quality control before dispatch. We operate as direct from the manufacturer, which allows us to maintain high standards without intermediary steps that could compromise the final product quality.
For the 990 family, a version with catalytic converter is available, selectable directly from the drop-down menu on the product page. The catalysed version is designed for those who wish to use the exhaust silencer in road-legal conditions. Those who prefer the decat version for predominantly track or private use can choose the non-catalysed configuration.
Every sports silencer comes with a standard dB killer included. Please note that removing the dB killer voids the product's homologation. For those looking for further sound reduction, the No-Noise option is available: a welded internal filter that significantly reduces decibels without meaningfully affecting engine behaviour. This option is also selectable from the product page.
Since this is a replacement of the end can only, the 990's ECU does not normally require remapping or any intervention on the engine management: the engine adapts to the new exhaust configuration without any particular issues. The original catalytic section remains in place, so there are no alterations to the existing emissions control system.
