When the R6 reached the market in 1999, the 600 supersport segment was never the same again. A 599cc inline four-cylinder, Deltabox II aluminium frame, four Keihin CVRD37 carburettors with TPS control and ram-air intake: 120hp at 13,000rpm on a bike weighing 169kg dry. The numbers speak clearly, but it is the character that makes the difference — those carburettors deliver a progressive throttle response with a surge at high revs that subsequent fuel-injected versions never quite replicated. In 2001 a targeted update arrived with lighter pistons and revised conrods for a sharper mid-range response, but the DNA remained unchanged: a supersport built to perform on track and to give everything on the road too. On a bike with this kind of character, the sports exhaust is not an accessory: it is an integral part of the sonic experience. Our sports exhausts are designed to bring out that voice. You can find the full range in the dedicated section for exhausts for Yamaha R6 on our website.
The products in this category are sports exhausts designed to replace the original muffler on the R6 1998-2002. The work concerns the lateral end can only: the original headers and the front section of the exhaust system remain in place. Fitting is carried out on the bike's original mounting points with no special adapters required, and each exhaust is supplied with a complete fitting kit. To ensure a proper seal and correct alignment, we recommend having the installation carried out by a qualified mechanic.
The weight saving over the stock muffler is tangible and noticeable across the whole bike. In terms of sound, the carburetted R6 four-cylinder — already sharp and intense at high revs — gains a more open and defined note with a sports exhaust, with a richer tone that further enhances the character of the engine. In terms of behaviour, a different management of exhaust gas flow can favour a more responsive throttle and, in certain riding conditions, a greater feeling of engine readiness.
Two sleeve lengths are available for this category: 285 mm and 400 mm. The difference is primarily aesthetic and relates to lateral bulk, allowing you to find the visual proportions that best suit your bike. Both versions share the same construction characteristics.
We build every exhaust in our workshop with handcrafted manufacturing in Lombardy, in the province of Bergamo. Each piece is made to order and goes through internal quality control before dispatch. We operate direct from the manufacturer, without intermediaries: a direct relationship that allows us to maintain consistent quality standards and give every order the attention it deserves.
Every sports exhaust is supplied with a standard dB killer included. Our exhausts are homologated for road use throughout Europe and Switzerland: the homologation certificate is included and is valid with the dB killer fitted. Removing the dB killer invalidates the product's homologation. For those who want to reduce the sound level further, the No-Noise option is available, with an internally welded filter that provides a perceptible reduction in decibels without significantly affecting the exhaust's overall behaviour. The selection is made directly on the product page.
As this involves replacing only the end can on a carburetted bike like the R6 1998-2002, no modifications to the fuelling or carburetion are normally required. The bike adapts to the new configuration without any particular issues.
Updated production times are visible directly at checkout and may vary depending on the period. Once your order has been dispatched, you will automatically receive a tracking code to follow your parcel.
For any questions about fitting, compatibility or the differences between the available models, check our FAQ section or contact us via the Contact page or chat: we respond directly and without unnecessary delays.
Below you will find the product list available for the Yamaha R6 1998-2002. The differences between the various sports exhausts are primarily aesthetic: body shape, material and finish. On each product page you can select the sleeve length (285 mm or 400 mm) and, if desired, the No-Noise option.
