The Kawasaki Z650 was born in 2017 as the direct evolution of the ER-6n, the 649cc naked that for over a decade had represented the ideal entry point into mid-displacement motorcycles. The name change is not just marketing: the project is rebuilt with a new, lighter and more compact steel tubular frame, and the bike gains a more defined character. Same mechanical base as the Ninja 650 and Versys 650 — 649cc parallel-twin, slipper clutch, horizontal back-link rear suspension — but with its own identity: pure naked, wide handlebar, upright position, no fairing. A motorcycle that hides nothing. From 2021 the engine moves to Euro 5 homologation, and in 2023 come KTRC two-level traction control and full LED lighting. In this category we bring together all the full exhaust systems we produce for the Kawasaki Z650, organised by model year. These are systems that replace the entire gas path from the engine outlet to the final muffler, headers included — not slip-ons, not replacement end cans. The original exhaust configuration is the same across all three generations covered — under-engine position with lateral outlet — but the fitting specifications and technical characteristics vary from one year to the next, particularly regarding the number of lambda sensors on the original system. It is important to select the category corresponding to your model year before proceeding with the purchase.

On a naked like the Z650, where every component is on show and weight is an integral part of the riding pleasure, a full exhaust system has a direct and perceptible impact. The weight reduction compared to the original system lightens the under-engine area and translates into a more reactive motorcycle in direction changes and easier to manoeuvre. Power delivery can become more responsive and fluid, with a more immediate throttle response that enhances the already lively character of the parallel-twin. In some configurations the reduction in back pressure can favour freer engine breathing. On the acoustic side the character gains body and definition: more present, more in keeping with the aggressive aesthetics of the Z.

Every system is produced through handcrafted manufacturing in Lombardy, in the province of Bergamo. Built to order, with internal quality control at every stage. Direct from the manufacturer eliminates all intermediaries and guarantees a direct relationship between those who build the exhaust and those who receive it, with everything that implies in terms of support and product traceability.

As these are full exhaust systems, the original catalysed section is also replaced. The catalytic converter is available as an option on all models and is selectable from the drop-down menu on the product page. Choosing the catalysed version results in no delivery issues or warning lights: a short ECU adaptation period to the new exhaust is normal however, during which small variations in power delivery may appear that will resolve on their own. The Z650 ECU is capable of self-adapting to the new system without external intervention, and on Euro 4 versions this process takes place particularly transparently. Those who choose the non-catalysed version should be aware that power delivery may not be optimal and that a remap will likely be necessary to get the best out of the system. The non-catalysed version is reserved for track use or contexts where road compliance is not required, within the limits permitted by local regulations.

The version from 2023 onwards is fitted with a second lambda sensor. Those who choose not to install the catalytic converter should be aware that the MIL warning light will certainly come on: without the catalytic converter the second lambda sensor does not receive the parameters expected by the ECU and generates fault code P0420. To manage this situation the AMC Automatic MIL Clear is available, which handles the MIL warning light without intervening on engine parameters or power delivery. It is available in the section ECUs, OBD II diagnostics and lambda kits.

The dB killer is included as standard on all systems to ensure acoustic compliance. Its removal invalidates the homologation and is not a practice we recommend. For those who want to reduce the sound level further, on some versions the No-Noise configuration is available, with an internally welded filter that lowers the decibels more decisively without significantly affecting the performance of the system.
